Please read this before your child attends your first session
Dear Parents and Carers,
A heartfelt welcome to our nursery family, and thank you for choosing us to care for your most precious little one. We’re so excited to be part of this journey with you and your child, and we’re committed to creating a safe, joyful, and engaging environment where your child can grow, learn, and thrive.
To help make this transition into nursery life as smooth and enjoyable as possible, we’ve prepared some important information below. It includes everything you’ll need to know about settling in, daily routines, and how we’ll work together to support your child’s development.
We kindly ask that you take the time to read through all the details carefully. If you have any questions at all, we’re here to help every step of the way.
We can’t wait to get to know you and your little one better!
Induction Plan
Welcome to the next step of your journey with us.
Once all your paperwork is complete, we’ll be ready to begin your family’s induction sessions.
You’ll soon receive a welcome email with the details of your child’s agreed sessions, the name of your family key person, and the date and time for your first induction session.
Our induction begins gently, with a virtual hello via a Teams meeting. This gives you the opportunity to meet your key person, ask any early questions, and begin building that important connection from the comfort of your home.
Next, we’ll warmly welcome you and your child into nursery for your in-person visit. During this time, you’ll be able to spend time with your key person—chatting, sharing, and watching as they begin to connect with your child. It’s a special moment, and we’re here to answer any questions and offer the reassurance you may need before that first step of independence.
The final part of the induction is a short session where your child will spend a little time at nursery on their own. This gentle introduction helps them become familiar with our routine and environment, while their key person stays close by to offer comfort and support. During this session, we’ll also send you a few lovely photos to help ease your mind and show you how your little one is getting on.
Every child is unique, and while many are ready to begin their full sessions after this visit, some may need a little more time—and that’s completely okay. Your key person will work closely with you to create a settling-in plan that suits your child’s individual needs.
We know this is a big step for your family. Please know we’re here to walk it with you
Uniform
Outdoor Learning & What to Bring
At nursery, we love to embrace the great outdoors—rain or shine! Our outdoor learning ethos gives children exciting, hands-on experiences every day. This means your child will likely come home looking a little messy, but rest assured, it’s all part of the fun.
Because outdoor play often involves mud, water, and a good dose of adventure, we tend to change the children’s clothes more frequently than a more indoor-based setting. To keep things simple and stress-free for you, we offer a full nursery laundry service.
Here’s what we ask from you on your child’s first day:
- One full set of spare clothes. We’ll transfer these into a labelled nursery bag that stays with us. When your child needs a change, we’ll wash and dry the worn clothes at nursery and restock their bag, so you won’t need to remember to send spares each day.
- Optional nursery uniform. While not compulsory, many families choose to use our uniform. It can be purchased from Impressions on Leyland Lane if you wish to use the logo printed uniform or you can purchase the same colour uniform without the logo from any shops or supermarket. This includes:
- Green jumper
- White polo shirt
- Grey or black trousers/skirt
We also kindly ask that you provide a weatherproof jacket suitable for walking and exploring in all conditions. As an outdoor setting, we’ll be heading outside in every season, so keeping warm and dry is key.
Holidays
Please refer to the 'holiday tab' and you will find the full schedule for 2005-2006. Just to note - Nursery follows the same holiday pattern as Leyland St james CofE school.
Meals and Snacks
Meals and Drinks at Our Nursery
All of our meals are fully included in your nursery fees and are freshly prepared by our school canteen.
- Breakfast: Children are offered a variety of healthy cereals and can help themselves to fresh fruit.
- Lunch: We provide a selection of nutritious hot meals for your child to choose from. A detailed lunch menu is available via our app so you can see what’s on offer each day.
- Snacks: Fresh fruit is available throughout each session to keep your child energized and nourished.
We cater for all allergies and intolerances in close collaboration with families. Please ensure that any dietary requirements or medical needs are clearly noted on your child’s enrolment form so we can support them appropriately.
As we are an outdoor nursery and the children use a lot of energy—especially in the sunshine—we prioritise hydration. We provide regular drinks and ensure all children have access to water throughout the day. Because of this, we kindly ask that children do not bring in their own drinks bottles, as we need to monitor fluid intake to keep everyone safe and well.
